I lived in Portland for five years, moved to a ‘burb north of Seattle three years ago. I love the PNW

Even some of us on the “dry side” of the Cascades!

That is where I am looking

Does seem like an interesting area. Definitely a place I plan to visit from LA at some point. Any reason you want to go there particularly?

Dad offered me a good deal on an apartment he owns. So it is there or Long Beach

![]() 02/01/2018 at 17:40 |

Well if you came to Vancouver, it could also be a complimentary Delica

Could I just have a HQ Monaro GTS 350 coupe?

I’m kinda north, further west than Spokane, but not very pacific... wrong side of the continental divide.

Oooooooooh, Niva!

Haha those are very different places. I definitely would choose the PNW, no way in hell could I live any further south into the LA hell lol. I like the area but oh man living down that way sounds like being on an island you can’t escape due to traffic.

Yes, indeed!

There are a lot of you
![]() 02/02/2018 at 11:42 |

That is because you don’t know how to drive in LA. I don’t have that issue usually. I love it down there TBH.

I don’t mind being there, it’s just that I couldn’t live there. My favorite place to be is in the mountains and that just puts me further away. I love the weather down there, it’s just always nice. But I just couldn’t live there. I do like it further down the coast though, like once you get down to Oceanside and those beaches.

Where are you looking at living?

My dad offered me an apartment he owns in Prineville

Not complimentary, heavily taxed.

... you know nothing of SoCal. Los Angeles is surrounded by great mountains.

I am well aware of the great mountains, I live a lot closer to them than if I was further South into LA. I am still in LA county. My point was that living in actual LA is hell to me since it takes a long time to get to the mountains in either Malibu or Angeles Crest and those are the bits I care most about.

It sounded like you thought that there were no mountains there.
That is true. If you’re too far out on the “plain” (as I think of it), you’re a long drive (often in traffic) from the mountains. I lived up in the SGV, so when the smog cleared (not often) I could see the San Gabriel Mountains from there. If I lived there as a teen, there’s no doubt I would have driven up the mountains regularly.
When I moved to San Diego, I went out into the surrounding mountains a lot. So many Palomar runs...

Yeah my commute every day is Mullholland highway through the snake to Encinal/Decker canyons and the PCH. So I specifically chose my place of living to have mountains as often as possible. I am also about an hour to Chantry Flats for a real hike up to Mount Wilson. Certainly the mountains being close to home/work were an important reason for me to choose LA to live. Even though most people don’t consider Los Angeles to be a “mountain city”.

I’m a bit envious of your opportunity to regularly drive those roads.
Many people seem to be unaware that Los Angeles may be the easiest place in the US to snowboard, skateboard, and surf all in the same day. It really has great mountains with excellent fun mountain roads, which people often fail to realize because it’s always portrayed as nothing but heavy traffic through gridlock 24/7.

Los Angeles proper is nothing but heavy traffic 24/7 lol. And much of Orange/Ventura/LA counties seem to follow suit and continue to get worse. So it is a genuine problem and certainly looks that way from the inside and out. But of course any local can figure ways around that to find truly special places to go. I wish there was a solution to the traffic, it definitely leads to suffereing for a lot of people. My girlfriend suffers through the 101 into Hollywood everyday but at least she has a vanpool shuttle that counts as working hours to make it less painful.
